The challenge of giving a "soul" to architecture
When H Morshedy Developments, a developer synonymous with high-end real estate, contacted me for the "Elara Project," I knew the bar was set incredibly high. Elara isn't just another building; it's a five-floor architectural gem in the heart of the vibrant Athenian Riviera, located merely 100 meters from the seafront.
Our goal wasn't to shoot a standard real estate promotional video. We were commissioned to create an architectural documentary. We had to tell the story of the project, highlight the vision behind its modernist design, and make the viewer feel the aura of the space through a purely cinematic lens.
Filming a documentary means you are looking for the emotion behind the concrete and glass. Our day started by studying the natural light. I wanted to capture how the sun embraces the building's dynamic façade from the early morning light all the way to sunset.
Armed with my gear—a setup that included my drone for aerials and my camera locked onto a heavy-duty gimbal for ground shots—we began building our visual narrative. To achieve the deep "filmic look" a documentary demands, we relied almost entirely on high-end prime lenses. We wanted to focus heavily on the textures, the premium materials, and the fine architectural details that make Elara so unique, while keeping the background beautifully blurred.
Aerial perspective: A breath away from the sea
One of Elara's strongest selling points is its location. To convey this feeling of coastal freedom to the viewer, the drone was absolutely essential. By flying over the coastal promenade, we captured the project's immediate connection to the endless blue of the sea.
The combination of sweeping, majestic drone footage with smooth, stabilized ground tracking shots created a visual flow that is both elegant and highly engaging.
The final cut: A visual journey
Producing this documentary for H Morshedy Developments was a fantastic experience that perfectly blended architectural videography with authentic storytelling. The final footage doesn't just display a luxury residence; it tells the story of how urban elegance meets coastal serenity.
It’s productions exactly like this that remind me why I love documentary filmmaking so much: because it allows us to tell visual stories with real depth and meaning.
