Information about drone flights

Drone flights have seen a significant increase in recent years in our country. Many drone operators, both amateur and professional, choose to take aerial photos. Aerial photography and videography can be a wonderful experience with impressive results.

After all, the affordable price of drones today is a big incentive to start flying. However, unmanned flights must adhere to specific rules, whether performed by an amateur or a professional. So, what should an interested drone operator pay attention to?

1. At what height and distance is a drone allowed to fly?

In amateur drone flights, the operator can fly up to 50 meters in distance and height. This range, below 50 meters, does not require a permit and can be done freely by anyone. However, drone flights should always be conducted in permitted areas, which we will discuss further below.

If the operator wants to exceed this limit, either for personal use or for professional reasons, they must first obtain approval from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by submitting a detailed flight plan. After obtaining the relevant permit, flights can be made up to 120 meters in height and a distance of 500 meters, a distance set to ensure the operator always has visual contact with the drone.

However, a certified drone operator, like the experienced and specialized operators of our company, can exceed the above height limit (120 meters). To do this, theoretical and practical training at a licensed training center is required, as well as passing theoretical exams by the CAA.

2. In which areas is it prohibited to fly a drone?

Based on a Ministerial Decision, drone flights are prohibited in the following areas:

  • Within 8 kilometers of an airport.

  • In restricted areas designated by state authorities and published in a CAA decision.

  • In military areas and installations.

  • In archaeological sites.

  • Over institutions such as prisons, hospitals, schools, etc.

  • In environmental protection areas.

  • Over utility installations.

  • Over people and gatherings of individuals.

However, the above restrictions are not the only ones, as flights are also prohibited during certain times of the day. Specifically, a drone can fly half an hour before sunrise until half an hour after sunset. This means that all drone flights are prohibited during nighttime hours.
